Culinary Skills Apprenticeship Program

Thank you for your interest in Project Feast’s Culinary Apprenticeship Program. The apprenticeship is a paid, 10-week, 160-hour job training opportunity designed to support refugee and immigrant cooks looking to enter the culinary workforce.

The start date for the position will be Monday June 30th.

Apprentices MUST be:

  • able to participate in-person for the duration of the program (Mondays-Thursdays; 9:00am-1:00pm) at Project Feast (202 W Gowe Street, Kent)
  • 18 years or older, and legally authorized to work in the United States, because we will pay King County minimum wage of $17.29/hour
  • committed to securing a job in the culinary industry upon completion of the program
  • willing and able to stand for 4 hours and lift up to 25lbs (12kg)
  • able to communicate and follow instructions in English (around Level 3)
Apprentices work alongside the Culinary Team at Project Feast to learn culinary skills and commercial kitchen knowledge. Classroom lessons support English language learners in acquiring the WA Food Worker Card, life skills, professional culinary English, and career readiness. Successful graduates can also receive individualized job search support for 30 days after completing the program.

The Culinary Skills Apprenticeship Program is accredited through Highline College’s Department of Continuing Education. Successful graduates will receive a certificate of completion from Highline College, a graduate success kit, and a letter of recommendation from our Culinary Director. Graduates will also leave with an updated resume, their Washington State Food Worker Card (valid for 2 years), and access to individual job search support for the month following graduation.

*Application to the apprentice position does not guarantee selection into the program. Employment offers will be contingent upon eligibility and an interview. Participation in the apprenticeship does not guarantee you a culinary job. Employers have their own hiring practices which are entirely separate from Project Feast.
